Today, in Gwen Stefani/No Doubt lyrics

Image
It's a little late this week and for that I apologize: Flirt with conception Slow the cycle Will the baby grow? Social tradition interference Control, control, control Today is my birthday And I get one every year And some day... Hard to believe But I'll be buried six feet underground I'll be dead and gone, no longer around Spinning, spinning Before I can recall All the unknown chemicals Control the cycle The successive generations From dust to dust Burying my grandma Then give birth to my own daughter... what this song is trying to say: - we all die - death always gives way to creation (birth) - THAT IS THE CYCLE OF LIFE I know you didn't think No Doubt was that deep. TOO BAD, IT'S LIKE WHEN YOU LOOK INTO A PUDDLE AND THE PUDDLE LOOKS BACK TO YOU. somewhere in California, Gwen is eating Cheeto's right now.

Linda Hamilton is Still Not DEAD

Image
Real Fast. So one December someone told me that Linda Hamilton, star of Terminator and other flicks was murdered by her husband. They seriously tried to convince me. But NOPE, she is still alive, and I hope they did not think ex hubby James Cameron was responsible for her death. I bring this up once a year just so they can know that they were wrong. Happy Christmas Linda Hamilton. QATFYG: Now, will you please check out the Yelle Interview by Britts other account? It is far more entertaining than this post.

RIP MR. SALINGER

That was a request. What's your favorite Salinger work? Franny and Zooey ? Everyone loves that one. I've only read the Catcher In the Rye. When I was ten. the library looked at me with disdain when I got it out. I believe it deflowered me.

ah, vic chestnutt

Image
In case you haven't heard, Vic Chestnutt, an acclaimed singer-songwriter who was discovered by Michael Stipe of R.E.M., died yesterday. He was 45. I'm not going to claim to have listened to him before, because I never really did. but he was obviously very talented and I'm listening to him right now- there's a very Americana, Townes Van Zandt vibe to his music. worth a listen. http://www.last.fm/music/Vic+Chesnutt/+charts?rangetype=week&subtype=tracks (some streamable tracks here) RIP.

brittany murphy

What timing- this is such a shock. apparently the 32-year-old actress we best know for Clueless died of a heart attack this morning. I know 2009 was like a big year for celebrities' deaths but she was so young and this was so unexpected- it's really a waste. it's always sad to see someone cut down in their prime. personally, I loved her in Girl, Interrupted.

RIP Stephen Gately

Image
Stephen Gately, the 33 year old former singer of Boyzone, died of natural causes Sunday morning in Spain. you can read more on it here, but I (and I don't know that much about international pop music!) was shocked: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/10/14/2713384.htm?section=entertainment really unfortunate. :( RIP Mr. Gately!

patrick swayze

Image
Not a surprise at all, but Patrick Swayze (57) died yesterday. he was sick for sooooo long. RIP. NOBODY PUTS BABY IN A CORNER begs to ask the question, fave P. Swayze movie? is it Dirty Dancing , like my grandma would so choose? Road House ? Mine has to be Donnie Darko , although not his most shining moment. I have an embarrassing soft spot for that movie.

sad stuff, again

Image
we can be sure he's DJing in the great gig in the sky now. really sad story though. he seemed like he had his life together again. :(

RIP

Cara J. Suppa number of fcbk statuses about michael jackson's death: 49302050202104394092. number of fcbk statuses about ted kennedy's death (so far): 1. Uh huh... It's so weird to me he dies so shortly after his sister Eunice Shriver. ah man. RIP, regardless. The Kennedys, a dwindling clan. behold. I hate to say this, but until I watched CNN for like an hour this morning, I knew nothing about the man, really. except. um. certain things I don't want to repeat at this hour. He was in Erie a while ago campaigning for Obama, I didn't go see him though. Speaking of, Obama gave a nice speech about him not too long ago.

death and dying

Today marks the eighth-year anniversary of Aaliyah's death. :( she was really quite talented and I don't consider myself even a light fan of R&B. yes I like soul, but I don't care much for most R&B I hear on the radio. been trying to expose myself to the new Maxwell but it hasn't grown on me yet. in more recent news, Michael Jackson's death was ruled a homicide. how sad! I was watching footage of him on TV preparing for his tour....that would have been one kickass concert. I don't think he had the energy to do all those shows. I mean, I've read stuff about the state of his health at the time of his death and it's terrifying. "Try Again"- Aaliyah & Timbaland also, not to sound like a trite jerk, but you should try any form of Peach Wedge from Wegman's. it's like drinking a Dreamsicle!

ES MUERTO!

In a sudden onslaught of celebrity deaths, it would be easy to overlook that of Sky Saxon, the leader and singer of the band The Seeds. but I've got to bring him to your attention because this is a very, very good song. I would place them with contemporaries like The Left Banke and maybe The Zombies. then you say "you're so full of shit Brittany." but that's me on the keyboards. RIP!

whoa

I don't know how I let today go by without mentioning the fact that an ex-member of Wilco died in his sleep last night. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8066913.stm RIP Jay. I also don't realize how I just noticed there's a Feist/Wilco duet floating around out there. whoa. - Brittany
