The Useless Critic 2.0

By Guest Writer Taylor Birk I never thought that I would laugh at a book about cancer patients. Yet, this past spring, I found myself laughing until I was crying at "The Fault in Our Stars." I’m not new to John Green novels. I read his first book, "Looking for Alaska," back in 2010. So, I shouldn’t have been surprised he would be the guy to make me laugh while reading a book about a serious subject. Now, I didn’t laugh the whole time, of course. The book was very serious at times. In fact, I cried more often than I laughed. To be specific, I started crying during chapter eleven and I didn’t stop until the book was over. I felt so many emotions while I was reading that book. Green took a serious subject, made it a lighthearted story, but didn’t make it completely unbelievable. He kept the not-so-pretty aspects of dealing with an illness and just wrote an amazing novel. I think it’s safe to say I love John Green (not in the same way I love Tom Hiddleston, bu...

Deadmau 5 (aka "Mousehead" as I affectionately know him as) has picked ill words against QUEEN OF POP AND LIFE, Madonna. But in his defense- and I don't even like him that much because he unleashed Skrillex on the world- she was talking about the drug "Molly." Last night, I was in a restroom, and a group of girls were discussing taking Molly and how fun it is to wander around Tempe on Molly. great stuff. Anyway, it was all went down via Twitter and Tumblr, but I think Madonna's response- AND SAY WHAT YOU WILL ABOUT HER NEW ALBUM I APPROACH IT WITH AN OPEN MIND- was classic. And the whole thing was silly, but HILARIOUS.  The day she starts approaching Justin Bieber...I walk away. statement:  I don't know what Molly is.

ZOOEY DESCHANEL WEEK HAS BEGUN yeah you see us Zooey! WE'RE EVERYWHERE JUST LIKE YOU Ever since we started up two years ago, our blog has had a LITTLE obsession with Zooey Deschanel. I don't remember how or why it started. It was probably because 500 Days  was huge then. And She & Him are, and always will be, awesome.  SO it might also strike your fancy to learn that she's on a new Fox show this coming fall, The New Girl . The jury is still out on whether or not that will be a good show, but that comes later. Plus it's obviously not fall yet. Fox typically has a good roster of shows, but the plot sounds kind of hackneyed.  Whether it's been The New Girl , though, or her work with the Pooh movie, I couldn't help but notice ONE thing: her like, CONSTANT presence in the social media sphere! There is this internet trend going on right now- internet trends! the best thing! think of dancing babies and people doing the "I Will Survive" routine at Auschwitz, which is like, SO APPROPRIATE OMG, even if you were there and did get pardoned from the gas chambers- well anyway, people keep reposting this Bulgarian mystic, Baba Vanga's, claims that World War III will beginning in November of 2010. Baba Vanga died in 1996 and could not see things after being trapped in a sandstorm as a child or something like that. I don't know these kind of things happen everyday, but this left her with the gift of "second sight." Apparently, she was very picky about who she'd help with said second sight. Whatever, I guess I would be too. Also- she looks a LOT like that old gypsy lady from Drag Me To Hell , 2009's preeminent film. first of all this makes me angry because I have not done shit with my life yet and I resent the fact that the next world war is going to ...
