Useless Findings: More Things that One Must Share

Image
I was watching an Arab film, in a language I don't understand, but then, they reverted into Leslie Nielsen DeadPan, and I found one of the best awkward moments in film history. Police Officer, Casual as Can Be: "Oh by the way, her head is in the toilet." I should not have spent 3 hours laughing at that. From the Film: Mortiuri (See Below)

Dale Watson 'The Sun Sessions'

Image
As of late I have been ordering a fair amount of CDs on Amazon.com. Most of them are Neil Young albums, and I am sure my reviews of those will be much anticipated. However, another treasure that I bought on a Whim is Dale Watson's Sun Sessions . As the story goes, Watson was supposed to play a show in Memphis which was cancelled due to mishap, mismanagement or miscommunication. As a result, he called up Sun Studios and booked the date to record. What he produced? Cash-twinged rockabilly of the highest order. Every song on Sun Sessions sounds like a Johnny Cash radio single. They're all very brief, and therefore so is the album. Some of the song topics seem trivial, bizarre, maybe even facetious, but it works. It's a fun album, and well worth it, even though you can't get a $5.00 copy on eBay to save your life. Blow the ten if you are into it. Modern music is soulless. Lent is coming. Repent. P.S. Nader, I don't know how you take such glamorous photos of...

The Useless Critic Online Radio

Image
The world in our Facebook group has heard about this, but in case you are not a member,a new web segment called "The Useless Critic Online Radio" has been launched on Youtube. QATFYG: Is it high quality? No. It was made by me, but it is better than some of that crap I used to make. (I posted a video of when I was eating lamb brains in honor of Miley Cyrus) . Sometimes I hate myself.

From Nader / For Zooey

Image
My name is Nader Boulberhane, and this is Zooey Deschanel week. I wanted to find a way to create something that shows my fascination with Zooey Deschanel with the innermost core of my personality. Thus, Just for Zooey I’m going to dedicate these Faroese Guitar Songs to Zooey Deschanel. Zooey I picked this one for you because it was a popular song from the 1950’s, and we all know that you value the classics. This one is called “Rasmus” as the short title. The long title is “Ja kenna tit Rasmus.” It is a soft and delicate song….almost as soft as Cotton*. This is one performed by Stanley Samulsen, and I pick this one for you Zooey because you love Indie, and this is as close to Indie as Faroe Islands Guitar will get. If you like, you can run this by M. Ward. I actually used to keep this song on the “Guitar Wall.” This is a song that needs to be heard on a really cold beach. I didn’t get any further than that. My first post on Faroe Islands Music QATFYG: What song would Zooey Deschanel d...

The Royal Honeymoon with Algerie Nader: The Final Chapter

Image
So after hours upon hours of high-thrilled dancing and gratuitous face painting all good things must come to an end. The Royal Honeymoon with Algerie Nader eventually would lead to the morning after. Then, for Kate and Wills I would play this last song. "The River of Jordan" courtesy of Peter,Paul and Mary and this rendition from "Airplane!" Oh yes, this is appropriate. I traveled the banks of the River of Jordan To find where it flows to the sea. I looked in the eyes of the cold and the hungry And I saw I was looking at me. I wanted to know if life had a purpose And what it all means in the end. In the silence I listened to voices inside me And they told me again and again. There is only one river. There is only one sea. And it flows through you, and it flows through me. There is only one people. We are one and the same. We are all one spirit. We are all one name. We are the father, mother, daughter and son. From the dawn of creation, we are one. We are one. Every ...
