"Landline" - Little Boots

Image
One other artist I've always enjoyed - in addition to the aforementioned Mr. Little Jeans - is Little Boots. She's a tremendously talented electropop artist I've been fortunate to follow since the beginning of her career. So I'm also happy to share with you today her latest single, the irresistible disco homage "Landline." Also, very cool news for the incredibly talented Little Boots: She'll be joining ABBA on their upcoming "ABBA Voyage" tour as a member of their backing band. So it makes kind of sense to see "Landline" packed full of disco inspiration. Her upcoming fourth album will be in the near future.

Madonna's Top Five Moments

Image
The Top Five Moments in the Madonna-Verse 5.) "Like a Prayer" when she makes out with black Jesus I was probably 3 when my sister and I watched "Like a Prayer" together on MTV. A beautiful, BEAUTIFUL video, but needless to say, my toddler self did NOT get it. Nonetheless:  GET IT GIRLLLLL yeah that's not the right one...deal with it, bitch. 4.) When she made out with Christina Aguilera and everyone forgot about it Let's be honest:  I too have made the mistake of making out with Christina Aguilera. What was it like? TONGUING A TOILET. Next, puhlease. CAN SMASH GET CANCELLED LIKE NOW? SERIOUSLY? (I know, I know, but my mind is warped and I tend to confuse the Voice and Smash)  3.) When she put out "Hung Up" sampling ABBA Arguably, one of her best songs. At the time this was released upon the world, I was drudging away at McDonald's, dreaming of bloody suicide. I like to believe this song prevented that from happening.  2.) When she gu...

Swedish Music Primer (pop edition)

Image
Part of a five-part series that will begin and end today SUP EVERYONE. Did you know  Sweden is a musical mecca? yeah I thought so! After all, they did bring us the world's best pop group ever.... okay, so I love ABBA. just like everyone else that breathes oxygen. but did you know what OTHER great bands/performers have hailed from Heaven/Sverige??? NO, NOT JUST THE A-TEENS OR ACE OF BASE. Although "Beautiful Life" is catchy shit: my sister loved Ace of Base when we were kids. so I grew up listening to a lot of Ace of Base. it became my standard thing, whenever "The Sign" was played, to imagine the elaborate music video I would direct for it, if ever given the chance. this video would include the following: - my stuffed animals dressed as Indians. - Zuck Park (google it) - some kind of gigantic gong? anyway, this music video has ever yet to see the light of day. and you know, I just remembered this whole thing like six months ago. weird, wei...

Angels Never Die

Image
As decade week rolls onward...upward and onward, I am reminded of one of my favorite songs that has climbed through the decades with many renditions, covers, retakes...you name it, "Angel of the Morning" by Merrilee Rush and the Turnabouts is a song that has captured the Flower Power feelings of 1968. The glam of the ABBA Era ABBA does that somber touch so well. Then of course, there was Shaggy and the under appreciated "Rayvon" with their song "Angel" that took the strong inspirations from 1968. 2001 QATFYG: Has anyone ever read the play "Angel of the Morning?" I read it, and I was not a fan. It was one of the worst moments in my history of reading. Will there be another cover of this song in 20 years?

Sleigh Bells, in Cleveland

Image
It was kind of disappointing how the Grog Shop didn’t play anything by Tiffany or Berlin between sets, especially given all of the mid-80’s Madonna; was kind digging Ace of Base with everyone else, but the first opening act walked onto the stage while insisting they weren’t No Age . Two reasons to hate them, and we had just met! Oh but did you know, about a block and a half away, Harry and the Potters were performing in the alleyway behind the bookstore and every other song they did was the one about Hagrid? Maybe you were too busy standing in line for Sleigh Bells? We got to make heart hands while going “Hagrid!” and some other people made book noises during one of the other songs which were like “swish swish swish,” because books apparently do that when their pages are being turned! This was totally better than the first band—if they were actually No Age, not playing “Ripped Knees” would have been rude, especially because I / hundreds of people kept shouting for it, but their refusa...

just a wrap-up

CNN reports the inspiration story of a plucky little three-year-old girl defied the odds when she woke up from a five-day coma singing "Mamma Mia." The three-year-old from Gidea Park in Essex, fell ill last month and suffered a heart attack just two hours after being admitted to hospital. Her family was told she would not awake, but five days later the youngster surprised them all when she came round, singing the words to the Abba song Mamma Mia! You can watch the CNN report right here on BWW TV's STAGE TUBE. ^ I REALLY, REALLY wish that I had a video of this because trust me what I'm imagining...it's just weird. but who DOESN'T know the words to that song? YES, I'VE BEEN BROKENHEARTED. BLUE, SINCE THE DAY WE PARTED! - "The Wild Rib Cookoff" is underway in downtown Erie. blah blah blah. I'm not going. http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090527/NEWS02/305279878 - I went back to Crossroads and I don't want to go back for a lo...
