"Sunday Drive"- Ladyhawke

Image
This song really clicks with me. Sort of an 1980s-influenced kind of soft rock track? With an electronic twitch to it? It's different than her other stuff but I like it better than "Black and Blue." It just connects to me. So! Does she have some kind of fetish with Sundays? B

two things

I love Australians . Australians and Finns are my favorite people. do you know who I don't like? people from Malta. where the fuck is Malta anyway. WELL. Australia is having a lottttt of problems with floods. haven't you heard? ARE THESE END TIMES? and also, also also also, if you have some semblance of a conscious, you could perhaps donate a little to Congresswoman Giffords ' favorite charity . I am not speaking big donations for either of these groups. I just feel bad that I can't do more to help, you know? you do what you can. p.s. speaking of Australians, I feel like giving Ladyhawke another go. etc. BRAZIL

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! It's been 17 hours since we burst into the new year here in Korea, and the first song someone played for me was "Auld Lang Syne" by the Beach Boys. (Really shitty version, I don't recommend it.) The first song I played for myself in 2010 was Paris is Burning by Ladyhawke: I love the song and I wanted to get up and dance. That's as good a reason as any, I think! What's the first song you played in 2010? Why did you choose it?

Chromeo - Night by Night

Chromeo is an electronic/dance duo comprised of P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch). As their Wikipedia entry so astutely states, "The two childhood friends jokingly describe themselves as "the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture." They became relatively well-known with the release of their second album, Fancy Footwork, which featured the singles "Fancy Footwork", " Tenderoni ", and " Bonafied Lovin' ". I personally discovered them via their song "Opening Up (Ce Soir On Danse)". "Night by Night" is the first single off Chromeo's third studio album, to be released in the summer of 2010. I don't really know how to describe it. The song is almost an '80s throw-back while simultaneously building on their discography in an organic, interesting way. It fits well in the electronic/dance genre that is becoming relatively popular (see La Roux, Ladyhawke). F...

HOMECOMING 2009

It's homecoming weekend in where I am sadly living (Edinboro). you can tell because it's like, not even 9 and there's music blasting and I have never heard so many drunk people in my life until last night. I WILL BE A PART OF THEIR LEGIONS THIS EVENING. anyway, I will be a part of the parade along with the rest of the esteemed Spectator staff, so come out and say hi! it goes around the campus loop and starts at noon. we will be giving away promo shit and, uh, Frostys coupons. also, I'd like to thank Alice for doing an INCREDIBLE job redesigning the Useless Critic! look how legit we look now!!! makes me so proud. to tide things over, here's the new Ladyhawke video for "Magic." This song means a lot to me and I wish she'd done a better job: bleh. if you're around the area and want to check out any of the Edinboro homecoming festivities today, be sure to visit this website (JUST ONCE IS ENOUGH): www.breakouttheplaid.com you have been warned.

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy (music video)

The music video for La Roux's new single "I'm Not Your Toy" has been released and... I like it. La Roux is a British electropop synth band composed of Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid, singer and producer respectively. They work in the same milieu as Little Boots, Ladyhawke, and Passion Pit, so if you're into the indie electronic music that has been so popular recently, you'll probably like La Roux. I've been listening to La Roux on and off for a while now and I haven't exactly been blown away. Their songs are all good - catchy and interesting - but they just don't quite hit the spot. I like " Fascination " enough to let it play all the way through when it comes up on my iPod, but not enough to put it on repeat. Same with " Bulletproof " and " In For The Kill ." In contrast, I think that "I'm Not Your Toy," their new single, is better than their previous songs. When I first listened to it I didn't parti...
