And I just creamed myself!

Oh wow, here's another new No Doubt song emerging. Remember:   Push and Shove  comes out next month. You can't make that shit up!  it features- HEAVILY- Diplo-created Major Lazer- in the mix. And it's sort of...dubstep cum reggae. Whatever...I mean I like it a lot because every No Doubt song is like candy to me. This album sounds like it's going to be pure fun, and as amazing as 2012 has been in terms of music (because the world is ending and all, musicians must feel compelled) everything has been so heavy and kind of rueful. Thus!  No Doubt, WELCOME BACK.  p.s. why Ryan Seacrest, WHY

you need to hear this: SBTRKT

Were you paying attention to that playlist I lovingly crafted for you earlier this week? No? You are probably on something, right? I bet. You look the type.  Well on there I put a track I had JUST heard called "Something Goes Right" by the anonymous mask-wearing London producer known as SBTRKT. dumb name? probably. but take a look at him and tell me, TELL ME that mask does not remind you of Brak: or a really awesome tiki party you wish you had. anyway he's playing Brooklyn tomorrow at the Glasslands Gallery so I will probably see him because it is cheap and he's not bad. he's quite addictive, in fact. I guess this anonymous producer from London (is there something to be said for anonymity in music? look at the Knife and Sally Shapiro, I guess. the focus is not so much on them, like it would be for say Lady Gaga ((an artist FIXATED on image)) as it is the music itself) is considered "dubstep." And if he is, he's the good kind. He's p...

"Street"- Jamie Woon

Ryan asked me to join him in posting my favorite songs of 2011 so far. This is kind of a cop-out! but this song has been in my head a lot lately and has touched me on a kind of deep level. very few songs ever slink into this level of my consciousness. I consider it my twilight layer. sort of puts me in this hazy, dreamy state- best envisioned by the twilight time of day, you know? when everything seems very unreal. I shared this with someone I really cared about once, but I don't think they got it. I remember telling a lot of people things that hit me on a personal note, very personal, like when that woman punched me the other day (I survived!) that sort of personal- but then you're like OH SHIT, THEY DO NOT GET WHAT I AM SAYING. one of my biggest regrets of life is letting the wrong people in too far. anyway, this song. the whole album Mirrorwriting  is intoxicating and sensual. it's dubsteppy but also very soul-driven. and it's the good kind of dubstep, not the k...

SKRILLEX: yay or nay?

Image
so growing up, one of my friends had it bad for Sonny Moore from the band I never really listened to called From First to Last. seriously I'm not posting a video or anything...google them if you are very interested. screamo or something like that. she really had it bad for him though. like I think they traded semi-nude pictures on MySpace or something crazy and totally 2005 like that? anyway, I always thought after my experience with this girl and her adolescent obsession that he just faded into the same kind of oblivion which has claimed half a dozen other pierce-lipped heartthrobs. WRONG! HE'S STILL AROUND! AND HE'S SKRILLEX! whatttttttt I see Skrillex all the time on the Hype Machine charts. and I've listened to him a few times and found him kind of interesting. I like dubstep to an extent...I'm not sure what it is besides washing machines having a seizure that you can dance to. but my god I did not expect SONNY MOORE to be doing dubstep! craziness. so what do yo...
