A Quick Snippet about the New Yeah Yeah Yeahs (I'm late, I know)

Image
A few weeks back after it originally came out, I checked out the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, "Cool It Down." I have to be honest, I didn't expect to hear anything new from this band for a long, long while (although every dance party I've been to in the past decade has played "Heads Will Roll" at least once.) And largely speaking I pretty much bypassed any buzz about their return. But when it popped up in my Apple Music, I decided to listen to it - like a lot of indie/alt kids of my era, I was a huge fan of YYYs growing up.  "Cool It Down" was a bit of a departure from what I'd grown to expect from the YYYs in prior releases. This being said, it was a solid, to-the-point, and enjoyable album. (Also, it's rad to see it's from Secretly Canadian, one of my all-time favorite labels!) And despite feeling a bit more downtempo (to me at least) for them, there was some optimism that shined through the lyrics and melodies, and plus you can't d...

Song vs. Song: Jenny Lewis vs. Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Image
In this new ongoing series that I have been meaning to do for years but have never done ... I will be comparing songs with the same/similar name and determining which one is better. Utterly a useless exercise, but did you read the blog name?! Yeah ... it's a reoccurring theme ...  This week, we've got in one corner, indie queen Jenny Lewis! Her latest album "On the Line" just dropped this past Friday and Lewis is riding an impressively large wave of media coverage at the moment. And honestly, she deserves it.  And in the OTHER corner, we have that beloved indie rock band from the turn of the century - Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Karen O has been up to a bit lately, but I have only followed from a distance and thus feel unqualified to pontificate on it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The songs that are duking it out today? "Heads Gonna Roll" vs. "Heads Will Roll." Let's look at "Heads Gonna Roll" first - a lead single off Jenny Lewis's "On t...

TBT: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – "Zero"

Image
I'm sure most of you know how Throwback Thursday (or #TBT) works, right? In case you don't, it basically involves posting older pictures of yourself or other people on social networks—especially Instagram and Twitter—on Thursday (duh). Well, I've decided to make my own TBT, but instead of pictures, I'll be posting songs and/or music videos from the past that I really like, whether it's 4 years old or 20 years old. I call the shots, bitches. For today's TBT, I chose "Zero" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I already sort of knew this song back when it came out in 2009, but it wasn't until a few months ago that I became completely addicted to it. Ugh, how the hell did it take so long?? I mean, it was even featured on Gossip Girl , for crying out loud (more specifically the season 2 finale ). Anyway, some people didn't seem to approve of the band's decision to incorporate synthesizers to their music at that time, but I sure loved it. Sadly, I couldn...

i'm leaving because i don't love you

well I've decided because the internet isn't as enjoyable as it tends to be for me right now, to back off on it until Friday so I can accomplish more meaningful stuff. granted I'll check my ymail on my cell phone but until then you're going to have to text me or something. a little roughing it for me! ha ha ROUGHING IT. Al's been posting a lot lately so no worries. if anyone gives a shit (no one does :P). this is sad that this can be considered "roughing it." whatevs. I have stuff I want to get done (writing, cleaning, etc) and now's as good a time as any. plus I'll be posting (twice!) on Friday, so bear that in mind. as for right now, some shit before I get going: WHAT THE FUCK I used to have such a thing for Rivers Cuomo back in the day. safe to say those days have passed. I have not been pleased by anything Weezer's done, since...oh God. the 90s. SHOWS IN THE NEAR FUTURE, LOCAL ABOUTS, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE: - July 25: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, House ...
