I Saw Cut Copy Last Night!

Image
why iz every1 taller than me :< I haven't been to a real concert in ages and THIS WAS AWESOME. I have been trying miserably to see Cut Copy live since 2011- and my buddy Frank and I saw the indie-dance gods at the Marquee Theater last night! It was, I think, what the both of us needed. First of all, I don't think I've ever been to a show where so many people were dancing. And how could you not dance? I white-person danced- meaning I was too tired and my legs were too sore other than to do anything but bop rhythmically in tune with the music. See video for an example- Cut Copy puts on a good, energetic live show. Lots of sweating, dancing and at least one person who was on drugs ("I JUST TOOK SOME ECSTASY")- some dude offered me ecstasy once when I first moved here. I was so tempted but my friend strongly advised against it. She said I'd be happy for an hour and sad for a month. I was like "This is a drug that essentially recreates my exist...

Guest Writer: The World's Greatest Actors

This post was written by Zach Marmolejo. About a month ago, disgraced cycling champion and wrist-band fashion pioneer Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah he had been doping during his unprecedented run of seven consecutive Tour de France titles.   Not long after that, it came to light that at least five well-decorated Major League Baseball players were connected to a doping clinic in south Florida. Even the Super Bowl was not without performance-enhancing controversy (I’m looking at you Ray Lewis).  The public’s reaction was the standard shunning on social media websites and destroying products that bared the scarlet letter(s), once their favorite athlete’s name.   As a pretty devoted sports fan myself, my only question to the public is what did you expect ? We shouldn’t be burning these athletes at the stake; they were just actors playing a part.  If Daniel-Day Lewis were to admit to eating the bones of Abraham Lincoln tomorrow would everyone who saw "Li...

Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

You may remember my post about the band Yeasayer. I believe I mentioned that they would be releasing a new single and album within the next few months. Well, that was back in August, and that time has come. Well, sort of. "Ambling Alp" is the first single release from their sophomore album "Odd Blood," which will be released in February 2010. Ambling Alp is epic. Seriously. I wasn't really impressed with the song the first time I heard it, but it has blown up on repeat listens. I mean, I've listened to this song maybe twenty times in a row. It's ridiculous. Check the music video out (posted above). It's visually stunning. Plus, whoever came up with the concept was seriously high, because this shit is trippy, man. I love it. For that matter, even my mother loves this song! And she is a woman of discerning taste. Her favorite lyric is, "Now, the world can be an unfair place at times, but your lows will have their complement of highs." That...

dear celebrity children: SHUT THE FUCK UP

There's been a very prevalent trend among the spawn of Hollywood legends (and not-so-legends...Ryan O'Neill, in my book, will never qualify). I would trace this back to Christina Crawford's tell-all, which because that infamous cult classic, Mommie Dearest . If you have seen it, there's no need for me to wax on it. It doesn't paint the film icon in a positive light, and I think we can all safely assume there was some exaggeration involved. Then you go forward to like, Ryan and Tatum, and so many others that I don't feel like naming. "Oh, blah blah blah, my famous dad/mom/guardian was SUCH a dick, let me tell the world about it and meanwhile collect publicity for myself kthnx ." Well now we can Mackenzie Phillips, daughter of famed PAPA JOHN Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas to that list. apparently, on a recent interview with talk show guru/deity Oprah, (if you haven't heard this by now LISTEN UP) slept with her dad when they were both in the m...
