New "Be Useful: Something Has to Change

Image
There is a new "Be Useful" page posted, and this goes up with a lot of heart. This one is as simple as watching a short movie, which is exactly what it is. It only takes a few minutes, but it gets into the root and grain of a serious time in USA.  Special thanks to a certain special someone for posting this video (click the Be Useful page up top to watch) in our Facebook group. Audiovent: More Pop Rock

Image
I must first begin by saying this post is dedicated to Brittany Kemp. After I posted 3 Surprising Moments of Pop Rock , revealing three songs from my high school "Napster" lists. Afterward, it seemed it showed some of my poorer tastes. QATFYG: Brittany and people of Earth? When dealing with High School pop rock, what did you think of Audiovent? There is nothing surprising about this song, other than it's the only Audiovent song I liked.

The Useless Critic Does DC

Image
So on the night of Brittany Kemp’s birth renewal, we decided to hit the city, and by the city I mean we got to walk on the sunshine of the nation’s capital. And no, we did not score with the cast of that crappy MTV Show. (Get it? The City? Get it?) So in addition to trading business cards with the top politicians and yelling “HI MICHELLE” to the White House, we explored the true roots of American History. Actually, I am a total liar. We spent about an hour just looking at dresses in a museum exhibition on First Ladies. I felt I was unfolding my critiques like the least likable judge on “Project Runway.” (Michael Kors). After getting in touch with the nation’s heritage, we toured Washington D.C.’s restaurant scene, and we even got to participate in what is known as a Pub Quiz Trivia Night. Thanks to an anonymous source, our team name was unfortunately, “If you built your house next to the Mississippi River, I don’t feel sorry for you,” And proudly, I can state that we got the largest am...

the fiery furnaces, frasier, goodbye!

Image
We have been around for two years. holy shit? thanks for reading! THIS IS FOR YOU, DEVOTED READERS: The Fiery Furnaces - Even in the Rain from Thrill Jockey Records on Vimeo . The Fiery Furnaces are a hit or miss, but sometimes: they are right on target. New York and DC are calling SNOWMAGEDDON again. apparently they have just experienced what I have known to be a reality for years: thundersnow. I guess NYC had to close its schools for the first time in forever and my sister hasn't been at school in a few days so whatever. It's snowing here, and I'm out in public. anyway, I am going to embark out of Erie on what is the plane equivalent of a shoebox into Detroit and then I fly to Seattle and hope that I look interesting enough on the plane by myself that someone talks to me. I've actually never flown by myself before, so I'm a little scared, but hey. not as scared as I am for my eardrums, which don't take to elevations well at all. I'm also ...

hey!

if you're a fan of reading this at all REMEMBER to join our group on Facebook! I thought about making a fanpage or an actual facebook, but I think the group idea can work for right now. there you can leave us love, post suggestions, or tell us how much you hope we die in a fiery car wreck! the possibilities are amazed with endlessness! p.s. WE'VE HAD 12000 + VIEWS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

HOMECOMING 2009

It's homecoming weekend in where I am sadly living (Edinboro). you can tell because it's like, not even 9 and there's music blasting and I have never heard so many drunk people in my life until last night. I WILL BE A PART OF THEIR LEGIONS THIS EVENING. anyway, I will be a part of the parade along with the rest of the esteemed Spectator staff, so come out and say hi! it goes around the campus loop and starts at noon. we will be giving away promo shit and, uh, Frostys coupons. also, I'd like to thank Alice for doing an INCREDIBLE job redesigning the Useless Critic! look how legit we look now!!! makes me so proud. to tide things over, here's the new Ladyhawke video for "Magic." This song means a lot to me and I wish she'd done a better job: bleh. if you're around the area and want to check out any of the Edinboro homecoming festivities today, be sure to visit this website (JUST ONCE IS ENOUGH): www.breakouttheplaid.com you have been warned.
