The Useless Critic 2.0

There are many things I regret spending time on in my 27 years of life: - Playing "The Sims" so much and setting up ungodly scenarios for my characters. - Writing "Frasier" fanfiction as a young girl (I married Niles btw, I guess in some other world, we have several kids by now. Happy birthday, David Hyde Pierce, love of my early childhood!) - Most of the things I posted on Livejournal as a petulant teenager. But among the things I regret is watching the "Mother's Day" trailer. Holy crap. Why did I do that to myself? I might as well have watched a candid interview with Gwyneth Paltrow about her lifestyle. It would have had the same effect. Frickin' Gwyneth Paltrow. That's another can of worms for some other Sunday.   So I listen to a lot of Ted talks and Super Soul Sundays when I work or am at home. Song of the Day/You Need to Hear This! Just in time for a limited release on  Record Store Day - which is coming up April 19th - quickly rising newcomer Sasha Siem has released "Proof." The song is an all-too-short temptress, and dare I say it, has a taste of chamber pop to it.  Sasha Siem is no throwaway indie tart in the buzz-pan, though. This girl has talent. Song of the Day Today is Liz's birthday! I have known Liz for what feels like a lifetime. I was so happy we started speaking again last year. I sat on a stoop in Brooklyn and honestly, I remember regretting the fact I had fallen out of touch with her. But then she wrote to me within like a month- weird how that works out- and we began the slow process of renewing our friendship. Which has been a great experience. Because then I moved to Phoenix and lived on her couch for a while. And I've seen her fulfill one of her biggest dreams these past ten months and I can't think of another more talented person who deserves it more. Liz is an amazing girl. And one of the best friends I have ever had. Happy birthday! Here's a song to celebrate like you were Gwyneth Paltrow.  p.s. it may be too many astericks but I didn't want to take ANY chances.

Song of the Day I tried to find the video of the scene from "The Royal Tenebaums" with Gwyneth Paltrow and Gene Hackman at the restaurant eating to this song, but this is the closest I got. I rented this movie when it came out a long, long time ago (I was like 10?) and my dad did not appreciate it. "Brittany! What is this shit!" "Wes Anderson, Dad! You just don't understand it!"  might as well. Also, I am ridiculously excited for "The Peanuts" film. I'm 24, I know I know.
