Some Things in Pop Culture/Culture This Week

Image
I just returned from a late breakfast at the bus stop. I know that sounds glamorous, and believe me, Kim Kardashian dreams of my lifestyle. Actually I was doing a lot of thinking. Seeing as how I'm now returning to normal so to speak, my thoughts aren't as morbid or as masochistic as they have been. I'm going to share them with the world now. 1.) Miley Cyrus insults Sinead O'Connor's mental health- Okay, I am a fan of neither, but that is just LOW. Scumbag low. That's like insulting someone's physical condition. As you can deduce by my previous post, I kinda hate Miley. And I think Sinead is not the greatest but Miley has proven herself to be a tactless bitch. I am no Freud, but I think Ms. Cyrus has her own demons, so it's like the pot calling kettle black, really. 2.) St. Patrick's Day Songs: #3 Sinead O'Connor Sings Molly Malone

Image
The title says it all. "Molly Malone," also known as "Cockles and Muscles," is by far one of the most well-known and entertaining Irish songs, definitely fun to sing and pass around for a good time. I will say this song reminds us just how tragic of a piece this really is. QATFYG: Do you miss Sinead O'Connor? Whatever happened to her again? Wanna revisit that?

Sinead O'Connor and Luke Kelly: It's ON!!

So I'm quickly falling in love with this Irish song "The Foggy Dew," which was made popular by Luke Kelly. And then, made popular once again by Sinead O'Connor and the Chieftains. I like Luke Kelly's version better because he captures the moment with his dramatic vocals, and I've always felt the best Irish songs are the strong, accented, dramatic ones. Yeats would be proud. The Foggy Dew As down the glen one Easter morn to a city fair rode I There Armed lines of marching men in squadrons passed me by No fife did hum nor battle drum did sound it's dread tatoo But the Angelus bell o'er the Liffey swell rang out through the foggy dew Right proudly high over Dublin Town they hung out the flag of war 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky than at Sulva or Sud El Bar And from the plains of Royal Meath strong men came hurrying through While Britannia's Huns, with their long range guns sailed in through the foggy dew 'Twas Britannia bade our W...
