HOMECOMING 2009

It's homecoming weekend in where I am sadly living (Edinboro). you can tell because it's like, not even 9 and there's music blasting and I have never heard so many drunk people in my life until last night. I WILL BE A PART OF THEIR LEGIONS THIS EVENING. anyway, I will be a part of the parade along with the rest of the esteemed Spectator staff, so come out and say hi! it goes around the campus loop and starts at noon. we will be giving away promo shit and, uh, Frostys coupons. also, I'd like to thank Alice for doing an INCREDIBLE job redesigning the Useless Critic! look how legit we look now!!! makes me so proud. to tide things over, here's the new Ladyhawke video for "Magic." This song means a lot to me and I wish she'd done a better job: bleh. if you're around the area and want to check out any of the Edinboro homecoming festivities today, be sure to visit this website (JUST ONCE IS ENOUGH): www.breakouttheplaid.com you have been warned.

- So American Idol has done the unthinkable and replaced Paula Abdul. EJRELKAJRKELJRKEAJRKREKRE WHYYYYYYY! I still cannot believe this. It CANNOT be real. I refuse to accept this. bullshit! bullshit! anyway. Ellen of all people is stepping into her shoes. Her large, drinky-drink shoes. Ellen, BB, listen up. develop some kind of addiction and fast. otherwise this show will be less enjoyable than it already is. - Nine Inch Nails played their last official FOR REALZ show last night somewhere in California. um, I think it was California. I remember when NIN came to Erie my senior year of high school- people are always shitting themselves over Trent Reznor being some kind of "local boy." bought my tickets at Giant Eagle and never used them. NOW THAT CHANCE IS GONE FOREVER, THANKS TRENT. - that thing about Ellen has inspired me: who is YOUR favorite lesbian? I love Ellen, but I don't think she's my favorite. and it's certainly not RoRo or Tegan and Sara. hmmmm. foo...

THE MIEKA CANON

You Need to Hear This: One of the highlights of my budding (hahahaha, I sound like such a dick, I apologize) journalism career was covering Edinboro's Mieka Pauley show back last September? October? anyway, it was a great experience, and definitely one of the best concerts I've been to, major or otherwise. Really surprised Edinboro managed to reel her in- because I went to some of the other shows and they all were varying levels of "this isn't working for me." I know the odds are more than likely you've never heard of her, but that is a wrong you have to right. She's so good- like, IMMENSELY talented. one of the most compelling live performers I've ever witnessed. and I'm kind of in awe, because I think one day she's going to get the exposure she deserves, that I got to hang out with her during the show and Brian wrote me the setlist (which is now hanging on my bulletin board of prized items). This spring, Mieka Pauley beat out other contestant...
