A Very Belated 'Bossypants' Review

Image
I submitted this book review to a local magazine back in May of 2011. They told me to edit a lot. I was lazy and distracted, so I let it rot in my gmail for several months. Lo and behold, I present to you my last real post of 2011, following with my newly set tradition of having last year posts needing to deal with books... from some time in May that I cannot remember A smart person never judges a book by its cover. Admittedly, I am not a smart person.  When I picked up Bossypants by the current thinkingwoman's icon, Tina Fey, I thought "what remarkably hairy forearms she has."  Truth is, besides the forearms, you can deduce a lot from the Bossypants cover. You see the trademark Fey face, devoid of the spectacles that have made her a pop culture staple, staring at you with this amused smirk. And why shouldn't she be amused? She's very successful, and you and I will likely never be on her eschelon.  She also knows every single story contained between ...

a pre-may day celebration (of sorts)

People in Scandinavian/Baltic countries and Europe and immigrants and people in Fitzgerald short stories LOVE tomorrow. I don't really care. but I love that month (even though it looks rainy and dismal for the first part, at least). so this post serves as a "celebration." OPEN YOUR MIND. May is big for me, I turn 23 and get to go to a few cities and possibly have a big job interview again. I try not to get my hopes too far up, because I'm used to having my hopes' wrists slashed for whatever reason. FOR SOME REASON, I've been thinking a lot about Mexico. that makes no sense. I'd love to go to Mexico but I understand I might die. :/ for the time being, I will settle for the weekly El Canelo excursion ( HOLLA I LOVE YOU) as my Mexico interaction. here are some songs about Mexico to get you thinking about Mexico: I still need to hear their new album! and a band from Finland, Satellite Stories, has a song "Mexico" which I really like but c...

BETTY WHITE ON SNL WAS AMAZING

I still cannot get over how good it was. SNL is NEVER that good! and they brought some GREAT people back, omg. Amy Poehler sounded very weird though... I loved her hits at facebook and the tasteful jokes about her age. and "SHE'S A LESBIAN! LESBIAN!" ahahahaha plus when Jay-Z dedicated that song to her. ahhhh! check out this link for further details: http://www.newsopi.com/showbiz/betty-white-snl/1651/ did you not enjoy that???

questions

"Date Night" opens next Friday. On paper, it's a comedic dream team. Tina Fey. Steve Carell. but yet, when I finally caught the trailer, I was surprised because it did nothing for me: It also stars Mark Wahlberg, James Franco and OH MY GOD MILA KUNIS. but yeah, I would say it's less than I expected. still somewhat funny (in the middle, at least- "I don't want the kids to live with your mother!!!!") what do you think? also, the iPad was opened to the public to BUY BUY BUY today in New York City. some people waited for days to purchae the thing. I will not be able til afford this until 2013 and then it will be the less superior version which I will somehow manage to break. do you give a shit? y/n/maybe and also: HAPPY EASTER!

if you saw it

I didn't really understand (nor like that much?) the season premiere of "30 Rock," the only current show I give two shits about. you can watch it here . in added news, Tina Fey admitted she was a virgin until the age of 24, to David Letterman of all people (eww). HOPE!

the invention of lying

Every time I see another preview for this film, I get more excited to see it in the theaters. where it opens today! it has an all-star cast (well, what I consider to be, anyway) with a pretty novel concept: in a world, where no one has ever lied ... (cue "Star Wars" theme music) here's a review of it from Indiana: http://www.indianagazette.com/articles/2009/10/02/features/entertainment-media-t/10024904.txt I mean, Tina Fey! Ricky Gervais! Rob Lowe! ... comedic genius? well, do you want to see it at all? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_V9b8upG9E you know, for never having seen it, this reminds me a lot of "I
