The Useless Critic 2.0

I'm genuinely amazed by how enjoyable the latest Washed Out record, "Purple Noon," is. Some of the tracks do fall off into the background and don't retain much flavor, but the standout tracks REALLY stand out. Case in point: "Paralyzed," "Don't Go," and "Time to Walk Away." Now, you might be thinking chillwave is over (in my heart it'll always live on) and that three impeccable songs do not make a noteworthy album.  Well, those assessments are not inaccurate. But I've found "Purple Noon" a wonderful soundtrack to work lately. Smooth, rhythmic, lulling, hypnotic in the right moments. Even recalling Sade in some places. Just a quietly gorgeous work from 2020. Listen to "Time to Walk Away" below.

If summer wasn't already almost over*, I would say this upcoming album from Roosevelt - "Young Romance," to be released September 28th - would be *the* summer album. It's lush, retro but fresh, and innately joyful. Try to not listen to this jam (featuring noneother than Washed Out, who sounds right at home) and imagine yourself sitting poolside, enjoying a cool breeze on your skin.  Roosevelt do deserve your time and attention. His remix of Rhye's "Summer Days" is my personal favorite. Try to listen to it and not get a little bit pregnant. * If you live in Phoenix it'll be summer until you die; you are welcome!

Some of these won't apply to you, but #10 applies to us all as human beings. 10.) Nicolas Cage as Miley Cyrus in the "Wrecking Ball" video Kim sent this to me and I have no idea what to make of it. I can't stand Miley Cyrus and wish she'd disappear. However... this. This. Jesus. 9.) The new Washed Out album, "Paracosm." It's a gorgeous experience. I don't think I like it as much as "Within and Without," but I definitely am enjoying it. This is, in my opinion, the best track- "All I Know." It's like a less bombastic sequel to "Amor Fati." Ernest Greene is such a talented guy. He makes music from a genuine place, and I appreciate that. 8.) I'm writing a lot again. I'm almost done with a short story and I started this blog , which has been incredibly therapeutic  Every time I have written something, I have felt a lot calmer. Except the one entitled "Her." That one hurt.  7.) G...
