What You/I/We Missed in Film: 2014

What you missed Nightcrawler .  Some people have compared this film to Taxi Driver, and when watching it you'll see why.  Jake Gyllenhaal is both compelling in terrifying in this unique and eerie thriller.  I thought this was wonderful and I'm sad to see that Gyllenhaal is not in the Oscar race. What you didn't miss Gone Girl .  I got excited because I love 'The Social Network', another Fincher film.  However, I just flat out did not like anything about it.  The standout performance was Carrie Coon as Margo.  I didn't like either of the main characters and found the story ridiculous and disgusting. The Giver .  The world portrayed is bleak, emotionless and soulless.  Granted, this is intentional, but the whole thing to me played out like mannequins going through the motions.  I didn't care about the characters or the stakes. What I missed Boyhood .  Shot over the course of 12 years to capture a boy growing...

LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK FILM FEST

TORONTO - February 14, 2012  -  CMW Film Fest 12  returns with its fifth annual installment, taking place  March 21 - 24  in  Toronto . Presented by  Tribute Entertainment , the festival highlights an eclectic mix of movie premieres, special screenings, retro rarities, and limited engagements at three different venues, including the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Reitman Square (350 King Street West), the NFB Cinema (150 John Street) and The Toronto Underground Cinema (186 Spadina Avenue).   This year's festival features everything from drama to comedy to documentaries to special appearances and Q&As with some of the films' stars, directors and more. FIRST, in Edinboro , there is a bluegrass band playing called J.D. Crowe and the New South. I'm laying out my section as I type (ha, multitasking, not really, I have other work I should be doing) and I believe tickets are $5 to the public and free to EUP students. Not my cup of tea really but I have to go and I'm not completely sure I'm going to have room for this story. meh . I really should get a pull-out section. NO WAY I AM TRIMMING THAT "REVOLUTIONARY ROAD" REVIEW. IT'S ART. Then, in Cleveland, there is the Cleveland International Film Festival. I cannot go to this. but I'd like to go to this. www.clevelandfilm.org. I have not heard of any of those films, because I'm uncultured like that. but if you're into that stuff....you pretentious bastard...
