Dear Mr. Warner, Journey Does Not Suck

Presently, I was assigned to read the book, "Hardcore Zen" by Brad Warner for an Asian History class. It’s a collection of essays promoting Buddhism, written by a musician and monster moviemaker from Ohio. Overall the book is a good read except for this moment when he lumps Journey in with bands described as….And I quote.

“…bland, so joyless, so unrelentingly, wretchedly awful, it’s hard to imagine that it hadn’t been scientifically designed to induce vomiting.”

And in response he will be receiving this letter in the near future.

Dear Mr. Warner,

Journey is an awesome band. That is all.

PS: Journey is a brilliant group of musicians who have defined GOOD 80’s music. Who hasn’t had an ephiphany listening to “Separate Ways,” or “Don’t Stop Believing?” (Other than you of course) Journey combines intense vocal melodies with some of the best keyboard playing of that decade. They certainly are not wretchedly awful or joyless, and I find your criticisms blow.

Sincerely,

Avid Journey Fan

Hopefully, he'll respond shortly. And in case you're wondering the other bands he placed on his shit list were Styx and REO Speedwagon. Neither of those really hurt me too much; although, there are some good Styx songs out there. But JOURNEY is a totally different story. They definitely are not awful!!

QATFYG: Have you ever had an epiphany while listening to "Separate Ways," or "Don't Stop Believing?"
I know I have.

  1. YES! I loved "Don't Stop Believing" ever since I discovered it was the wong playing on the cello when Robbie's about to get married for the first time in "The Wedding Singer." then I would listen to it in the mornings before school and marvel at the lyrics. so beautiful, classic American stuff.

  2. Awesome! For me my first Journey epiphany was the first time I heard "Separate Ways!"

I was like, "Hello! Musical ORGASM!"

I've been a Journey fan ever since.

  3. When "Don't Stop Believin'" played during the last episode of "The Sopranos", my mind was blown.

No Time to Fuck: The Goldfrapp Essay

Konnichiwa! This is Irina Cummings and I'm here to discuss one of the most brilliant, innovative, and creative artists in the entire history of mankind: Goldfrapp – or as I like to call them , GODfrapp – the fantastique, highly inspirational, and sometimes criminally overlooked electronic music duo from London consisting of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, whose godly music has certainly influenced the vast majority of today's synthpop ladies, including Lady Gaga, Little Boots, La Roux, Annie and Florence + the Machine (not electro but still worth your while). They're primarily known for their mind-blowing music (which have spanned pretty much every style of electronic music – and some non-electronic as well), their abstract, sexually ambiguous – at times forthright – lyrics which are often not gender- specific , and their elaborate shows, not to mention the amazing visual aesthetics of their work, conjuring images that masterly complement ...

Give JR a Break

Recently, I've been reading some sites that have criticized James Roday, the lead actor on the USA show PSYCH for an apparent weight gain. But you know what? Who gives a flying fizzle stick if James Roday is slightly larger than he was 4 years ago. Apparently, it wasn't enough to scare away his current girlfriend/ co-star Maggie Lawson. (Who is one hell of a Catch!) And NO they are not engaged. That seems to be nothing more than a rumor, but there is a very high chance of it happening in the near future. Anyway, as long as PSYCH continues to entertain I don't mind about James Roday's waist. He, and Dule Hill, and Corbin Bernson too, can eat all the fried broccoli they want. The last episode of PSYCH wasn't so smashing, but I don't blame it on dietary issues. QATFYG: Are you keeping up with Psych? And who is hotter, James Roday or Maggie Lawson? (Trick Question but idk why) PS: If you have heard any more news on Roday and Lawson becoming Roday-Lawson, send it...

Full Oscar Recap

For starters Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were great hosts. I really liked their chemistry and humor, but I wondered how they would get through without a musical number.....then there is Neil Patrick Harris to save the day. So like I said, Miley and Taylor were out of line....and I really did not like how when Miley was up on stage with Amanda Seyfried and she says "We're nervous, it's our first time up here." OH come on, like you've never presented an award before, and you've also been to the Oscars.....Not to mention Amanda S. presented the special last year with R Patz about Romance movies. More Recap, Monique won as predicted. Christoph Waltz won as predicted. Jeff Bridges won as predicted. Sandra Bullock won as predicted. All of which were Great and Followed with Great Speeches. I love how Sandra said in the Baps interview that if Meryl Streep won, she's gonna "kick her ass." Also Christoph Waltz was so good. He was unbelievably good in ...
