strangers on a train

Because I'm as corny as all hell, I decided that from, this point forward, I will be doing a series of posts related to the upcoming HALLOWEEN holiday. !!! I'm so original, right? shut up.

Anyway, I'm not a big horror film buff. nope. never. they bother me way too much and I tend to dwell on them an unhealthy amount. I shit my pants rather easily.

but there's one person I've been able to appreciate enough and that's Alfred Hitchcock. I know that's a cliche, but I enjoy his work. it's hard to pick a favorite though.

"Notorious" (1946) = CARY GRANT AND INGRID BERGMAN. 'nuff said. gorgeous film; classic noir!

"Psycho" (1961)= one of my favorite movies of all time, believe it or not. just the way the story is told and the unsettling creepiness of Anthony Perkins. I think it was very ahead of its time, in a way. love, love, love this. not as terrifying as it was the first time around I saw it, but I still manage to enjoy every viewing. and for God's sake! do NOT see the remake. or the sequels. bleh.

"Vertigo" (1958)= Jimmy Stewart (awesome!) and two Kim Novaks?...wonderfully shot, wonderfully told, haunting and mesmerizing. oh it's hard not to pop a boner for this, you know.

I've seen a few other ones ("The Birds" was kind of ridiculous to me! and "Rear Window" as much as I WORSHIP Grace Kelly was just...blah! no good to me) but I still have yet to see a lot of the ones I want to (i.e. "STRANGERS ON A TRAIN," "Rope," "Dial M For Murder"). ah well.

what are your favorite Hitchcocks?

haha, cocks.

p.s. there's an awesome "That '70s Show" parody of the best Hitchcock scenes...think "North By Northwest"....here's one of them.

  1. my fav hitchcock that I've seen so far is def Psycho. I saw it on halloween back in HS, and it was the first movie that truly scared me. Hitchcock still does it the best!!!

  2. have you read The Birds (Daphne DuMaurier)? coz for some reason, it scared the living shit out of me. and then so did the movie.

strangers on a train is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Jamisen brought it over one night and made we watch it. I was intrigued until about 3/4 of the way through. Then I started youtubing Rilo Kiley.

north by northwest is superb. eva marie st. is balls-to-the-walls sensual. good, abrupt ending, too. doesn't usually work, you know. but it does for this film.

you forgot about THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH! CHE SERA, SERA! IT'S A PLACE, NOT A PERSON! BERNARD HERRMANN!

I watch a lot of TCM with my dad.

  3. No Rear Window for you, eh? It does something very few others films could ever pull off (although Hitchcock's Rope also comes to mind... and 12 Angry Men) - have an entire movie take place in one room and make it captivating. Maybe it is just my man crush on James Stewart, but I think Rear Window is probably my favorite Hitchcock. Rebecca, North by Northwest, and Vertigo would round up the rest of my favorites.

Give JR a Break

Recently, I've been reading some sites that have criticized James Roday, the lead actor on the USA show PSYCH for an apparent weight gain. But you know what? Who gives a flying fizzle stick if James Roday is slightly larger than he was 4 years ago. Apparently, it wasn't enough to scare away his current girlfriend/ co-star Maggie Lawson. (Who is one hell of a Catch!) And NO they are not engaged. That seems to be nothing more than a rumor, but there is a very high chance of it happening in the near future. Anyway, as long as PSYCH continues to entertain I don't mind about James Roday's waist. He, and Dule Hill, and Corbin Bernson too, can eat all the fried broccoli they want. The last episode of PSYCH wasn't so smashing, but I don't blame it on dietary issues. QATFYG: Are you keeping up with Psych? And who is hotter, James Roday or Maggie Lawson? (Trick Question but idk why) PS: If you have heard any more news on Roday and Lawson becoming Roday-Lawson, send it...

No Time to Fuck: The Goldfrapp Essay

Konnichiwa! This is Irina Cummings and I'm here to discuss one of the most brilliant, innovative, and creative artists in the entire history of mankind: Goldfrapp – or as I like to call them , GODfrapp – the fantastique, highly inspirational, and sometimes criminally overlooked electronic music duo from London consisting of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, whose godly music has certainly influenced the vast majority of today's synthpop ladies, including Lady Gaga, Little Boots, La Roux, Annie and Florence + the Machine (not electro but still worth your while). They're primarily known for their mind-blowing music (which have spanned pretty much every style of electronic music – and some non-electronic as well), their abstract, sexually ambiguous – at times forthright – lyrics which are often not gender- specific , and their elaborate shows, not to mention the amazing visual aesthetics of their work, conjuring images that masterly complement ...

Spotlight/Shoutout: OG Mudbone (One Year of S/S)

!!!ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!! Can you believe it's been a year already since Spotlight/Shoutout started off on the third Thursday of August? The first ever s/s went to Kyle MacLachlan, and then the spotlight was stolen by OG Mudbone...........the funniest man on earth according to some Youtube videos. For those of you who do not know, OG is an FOC "Freak of Co*k" adult film actor. And yes, I censored the C word, just in case the word cock offends anyone. OG Mudbone takes the 1 year prize because he's enormous (and he shoots and scores), and it doesn't matter if his adult entertainment masterworks are real or fake. His foul mouth is more exciting than many. Seriously, get some google images. height="385"> In other news, Spotlight/Shoutout has had some great ups this year. I hope there are many more to come, and indeed there will be. QATFYG: If anyone has seen his films, can you still drink soymilk? I can't! Happy 1 year!! s/s
