britt's midsummer mix

Well, Al and AWM have given it goes, adding some nice diversity to the lot. I don't know what charities they are supposedly representing or if they want to hoard the fortune to themselves. as for me, I'll decide if I win. Rebecca still has to go- Matthew, C-raw? feel free to do as well. and Adam!

...

here's a transit of my year in terms of famous female writers, do you follow?
- winter 2010: Sylvia Plath (basically want to die)
- spring 2010: Anne Sexton (still want to die, but more insane. I did not sleep with my daughter, though....)
- summer 2010: Anais Nin (darker periods, with more light, a return to former self. although my former self is basically dead so I am kind of a zombie version of Brittany, but a good zombie).

thus, my midsummer mixes have traditionally held a melancholy air of them, the same kind of air that reminds you autumn is just one premature frost or changing leaf away. that school supplies are all the rage at Target and Staples, etc.

BUT I NO LONGER FEEL THAT BAD. I welcome the fall. even though summer's weather has been lovely (if not oppressive this year) and I hope this well thought out mix (cough cough cough) expresses that mood:

-

"Scissor Runner"- Jenny and Johnny

this couple is in love; you can hear it in their voices, the playful back and forth. it's adorable. not excruciating or angering- just adorable. it's like rediscovering your first love, if that was a good thing.

"Wicked Blood"- Sea Wolf

"Memories"- David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi

"Easy"- Joanna Newsom

there is something about that album that makes me feel like a farmer's wife in 1898. and he's coming back for the night and it's around twilight- but he doesn't have a face and we don't have sex. it's a mood thing.

"Front Row"- Metric

"Short and Entertaining"- Jamaica

see previous post on this subject.

"Sweet"- Annie

"Swimming"- Florence + the Machine

"Dandelion"- Charlotte Gainsbourg

"French Navy"- Camera Obscura

"Sovay"- Andrew Bird

"Sleep All Summer"- St. Vincent + the National

I can't verbalize how much I love this song. I sing it in the shower (both parts). that's how much I love it. imagine that, please. it kind of sounds weird.

"Shiny and Warm"- Goldfrapp

snapping the nice mood created by that last one...

"40 Day Dream"- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

"So Happy I Could Die"- Lady Gaga

"this is the Lady Gaga song I don't like! the lyrics are so bad!"- my mom

"Swisha"- Ratatat

"Airport Taxi Reception"- Sondre Lerche

"Autumn Sweater"- Yo La Tengo

"Radio #1"- Air

"Set Yourself On Fire"- Charlotte Gainsbourg

SHE DESERVES TWO MENTIONS SHE IS THAT GOOD.

"Past In Present"- Feist

"Let's Go Surfing"- The Drums

"Totem on the Timeline"- Klaxons

"The Party"- Justice f. Uffie

I know a lot of people hate this song but whatever, Uffie is such a pleasure for me. she's what I wish I could be- this callous stupid party bitch. so. I would like to party with her but I'm pretty sure I'd wake up with a Frenchman peeing on me, not that that hasn't already happened.

"A Pretty Girl Is Like..."- The Magnetic Fields

a toaster? a microwave? a handstand? many things.

"Too Young"- Phoenix

"Mon Soleil" - Ashley Park

If there's anything people take away from my piss-poor legacy, I hope it's what a huge, unabashed fan of "Emily in Paris" I am and will continue to be. People love "90 Day Fiancee," "The Bachelor," and other garbage - allow me "Emily," which is at least harmless, kind of goofy fluff (which does, unfortunately, lean into some stereotypes, as the country of Ukraine knows ). I have already watched Season 2 twice. And honestly my favorite part of this show (despite my crush on Camille Razart and Lily Collins channeling Audrey Hepburn hardcore ) is Ashley Park. This woman has superstar written all over her. She's a bona fide Broadway star, and "Emily in Paris" has served as her pivot into the zeitgeist.  "Emily in Paris" is also showcasing her vocal prowess front and center this season, with her covering BTS, "All By Myself," "Sympathtique," and Marilyn Monroe. But the real standout performance is th

Appropriate Holiday Gift Ideas for the Single Lady

While some people may see it as a drag, there are plenty of benefits to being single during the holiday season. During this time of the year, there are tons of parties you can attend that you may not have had the opportunity to if you were in a relationship. There’s also not as much stress on you as a single gal during the holidays because you don’t have to shop for your partner and extended family members  or  stress over where to eat Christmas dinner.  Not everyone sees the bright side of being fancy free during the holidays, and, tragically, they aren't afraid to let us single ladies know. Not only are single women subjected to even more harassment and ridicule during the holiday season, they’re also given the most obnoxious gifts by those who can’t comprehend how anyone can be both happy and single. Whether it’s a self-help book (desperately) trying to reinforce how great is to be single or the gift of a year-long subscription to Match.com , single women are presented with

Give JR a Break

Recently, I've been reading some sites that have criticized James Roday, the lead actor on the USA show PSYCH for an apparent weight gain. But you know what? Who gives a flying fizzle stick if James Roday is slightly larger than he was 4 years ago. Apparently, it wasn't enough to scare away his current girlfriend/ co-star Maggie Lawson. (Who is one hell of a Catch!) And NO they are not engaged. That seems to be nothing more than a rumor, but there is a very high chance of it happening in the near future. Anyway, as long as PSYCH continues to entertain I don't mind about James Roday's waist. He, and Dule Hill, and Corbin Bernson too, can eat all the fried broccoli they want. The last episode of PSYCH wasn't so smashing, but I don't blame it on dietary issues. QATFYG: Are you keeping up with Psych? And who is hotter, James Roday or Maggie Lawson? (Trick Question but idk why) PS: If you have heard any more news on Roday and Lawson becoming Roday-Lawson, send it
