We still don't have a cure for this disease. Since 1981, it has claimed some 30 million people worldwide.
In the United States right now, 1.2 million people are living with HIV.
Although President Obama has come forth today and announced that $50 million has been earmarked for AIDS spending in the United States, globally AIDS funding stands to suffer in the ongoing economic crisis.
I don't know what else to say about this. it's heartbreaking. if you can give money, do so. if you need to ever get tested, do it.
What I would like to see is increase in adoption of OVC ,At Risk, and AIDs orphans from developing countries...that isn't the long term solution, but it would help the kids that are born into this.
ReplyDeleteThe long term goal I guess is develop a cure...and provide contraception/protection,testing, and education as widely around the world as possible.
