REBECCA'S INAUGERAL POST

because I have a job for a little while, I am taking a break from blogging. - B.Kemp.
I can think of no better person to semi-channel my presence.

As almost none of you know (aside from BrittBritt), I transplanted from Edinboro to Pittsburgh. I’m going to catch you up on a few Pittsburgh things. There have been some nasty storms around lately. Consequently, my community has a road blocked off and no internet or phone service. Stuck with a Blackberry and no cable, I made the trek to Starbucks today to suck up some free Wi-Fi (and an iced vanilla latte because, hey, it’s hot out there).

First of all, if you really want to get John Mayer tickets for August 1st, check out 96.1 FM Pittsburgh tomorrow at 8:00am. The station is planning to give away some tickets, if it’s your style to get up that early. Even here no one is in their cars that early. However, with tickets going for around $50 each and good tickets all but sold out, listening tomorrow morning is your best bet. I realize John Mayer is not an obvious choice for a great summer concert, but he’s really only good live, and Pittsburgh is a good place to catch concerts. My best pick - Friends, Lovers, or Nothing. Catch it live here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTZZ76vqV7U

The new Apple store in the Ross Park Mall is set to open soon, but the actual date is traditionally kept secret until a few days before the opening. Expect the store to open in as little as two weeks. Projections and rumors (and no, I don’t work there, so don’t try to report me) show the store will open before September at the latest. Why show up? Each Apple store opening usually comes with a few hundred free t-shirts for employees to give out. You don’t have to buy anything; just show up and check it out to snag a shirt. This is Pittsburgh’s third Apple store, so you can bet that opening day will be fun and without problems.

Pittsburgh Magazine is running an interesting list online called “Pittsburgh by the Numbers” (found here: http://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/Pittsburgh-Magazine/August-2010/Pittsburgh-By-The-Numbers/ ). I have a hard time believing anything on this list, which by the way has some validity since it’s not just a list that Pittsburgh Magazine made up itself - it’s from outside sites like Forbes and the Huffington Post. I suppose it is true that traffic on the Parkway is bad, but the second best city for new grads?

The most exciting thing coming up soon is the season six premiere of Weeds. August 16th marks the return of Nancy Botwin and her life as a drug dealer. Nancy Botwin, played by the real-life-attractive Mary-Louise Parker, deals a lot of pot. She causes herself many problems, is widowed - twice, cuts deals with the DEA, bears an illegitimate half-Mexican son, has Alanis Morissette as an OB/GYN, and (my personal favorite) drives a Prius. I’m excited for the season to be over and appear on Netflix, which has every episode of all five previous seasons on instant play.

These girls in front of me are working on some serious homework. I can see charts, graphs, calculus equations, and graphing calculators. Carnegie Mellon, anyone? Tip, girls - it’s summer, so relax a little! You look like you belong on Gossip Girl, so go act the part! Ah, the suburbs!

"Mon Soleil" - Ashley Park

If there's anything people take away from my piss-poor legacy, I hope it's what a huge, unabashed fan of "Emily in Paris" I am and will continue to be. People love "90 Day Fiancee," "The Bachelor," and other garbage - allow me "Emily," which is at least harmless, kind of goofy fluff (which does, unfortunately, lean into some stereotypes, as the country of Ukraine knows ). I have already watched Season 2 twice. And honestly my favorite part of this show (despite my crush on Camille Razart and Lily Collins channeling Audrey Hepburn hardcore ) is Ashley Park. This woman has superstar written all over her. She's a bona fide Broadway star, and "Emily in Paris" has served as her pivot into the zeitgeist.  "Emily in Paris" is also showcasing her vocal prowess front and center this season, with her covering BTS, "All By Myself," "Sympathtique," and Marilyn Monroe. But the real standout performance is th

Appropriate Holiday Gift Ideas for the Single Lady

While some people may see it as a drag, there are plenty of benefits to being single during the holiday season. During this time of the year, there are tons of parties you can attend that you may not have had the opportunity to if you were in a relationship. There’s also not as much stress on you as a single gal during the holidays because you don’t have to shop for your partner and extended family members  or  stress over where to eat Christmas dinner.  Not everyone sees the bright side of being fancy free during the holidays, and, tragically, they aren't afraid to let us single ladies know. Not only are single women subjected to even more harassment and ridicule during the holiday season, they’re also given the most obnoxious gifts by those who can’t comprehend how anyone can be both happy and single. Whether it’s a self-help book (desperately) trying to reinforce how great is to be single or the gift of a year-long subscription to Match.com , single women are presented with

Give JR a Break

Recently, I've been reading some sites that have criticized James Roday, the lead actor on the USA show PSYCH for an apparent weight gain. But you know what? Who gives a flying fizzle stick if James Roday is slightly larger than he was 4 years ago. Apparently, it wasn't enough to scare away his current girlfriend/ co-star Maggie Lawson. (Who is one hell of a Catch!) And NO they are not engaged. That seems to be nothing more than a rumor, but there is a very high chance of it happening in the near future. Anyway, as long as PSYCH continues to entertain I don't mind about James Roday's waist. He, and Dule Hill, and Corbin Bernson too, can eat all the fried broccoli they want. The last episode of PSYCH wasn't so smashing, but I don't blame it on dietary issues. QATFYG: Are you keeping up with Psych? And who is hotter, James Roday or Maggie Lawson? (Trick Question but idk why) PS: If you have heard any more news on Roday and Lawson becoming Roday-Lawson, send it
